Al Fresco Dining In Cornwall

Here in pretty St Ives and the surrounding areas we have many wonderful places to dine in, but to take full advantage of the wonderful summer we are having this year, we have come up with a selection of our favourite eateries that go that one step further and offer Al Fresco dining.

The Porthmeor Beach Cafe

First up we have the wonderful Porthmeor Beach Café here in St Ives.  With a buzzing atmosphere, alfresco dining and imaginative cocktails serving breakfast, lunch and tapas through to evening dining. The friendly staff will greet you with a choice of inside, on the terrace, or tucked away in our cosy heated booths. Boasting the best sunset in the west, perfect for people watching, checking the surf, and even the occasional dolphin show.

The Tremenheere Kitchen

The Tremenheere Kitchen located within the Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens (which is just outside of Penzance) with views across the bay to St Michaels Mount.  At the end of your walk amongst the sculptures there is a lovely restaurant serving hot food all day with the bonus of summer evening dining on Friday and Saturdays out on the terrace. This restaurant is favourite amongst both locals and visitors, with its varied menu and excellent vegan options, booking is always recommended.

The Old Coast Guard, Mousehole

A visit to Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the pretty harbour village of Mousehole, and the stunning restaurant at The Old Coastguard Hotel. Run by Charles & Edmund (owned with the Tresco Estate), it sits immediately above the sea, with a palm lined garden running down towards the rocks. It has 14 bedrooms, an amazing bar and restaurant menu with views to St. Michael’s Mount and the Lizard and a lovely terrace to enjoy a drink or two on!

Carbis Bay Beach Club

Guests can unwind in Carbis Bay (just outside of St Ives) whilst sampling the sun-soaked dishes that come complete with the most magical of backdrops and the option to enjoy a cocktail with a view!  Offering relaxation for diners who want a touch of that beach vibe, the decor inside instantly gives you that light and airy summer feeling. With both a Mediterranean dining area and a chill out zone with comfy sofas, this beach side restaurant has already been described by recent guests as one of the coolest places to eat and drink.  The club restaurant is open 7 days a week for morning coffee, lunch, drinks or cocktails on the terrace or a relaxing dinner – all with uninterrupted ocean views for as far as the eye can see.

West Beach at Porthmeor

And, finally if eating in a relaxed beachside location while the children play on the beach appeals to you, then West Beach is going to be your eatery of choice!  Nestled at the far end of Porthmeor beach in St Ives, West Beach offers a casual alfresco dining experience with a chance of catching the last evening sun (and sunset) and watching the waves. West is perfect for those laid back evenings, sipping Pimms and enjoying a Pizza or a curry as the sun goes down.
