Things to do this April in St Ives

Here in sunny St Ives and surrounding areas we have plenty to entertain our visitors of all ages over the Easter period.

The art fans amongst you can pay a visit to The Leach Pottery who are running Easter weekend open days along with tours of the pottery and a shop full of their fabulous pottery for you to buy. Or take a visit to The Tate and its sister museum the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden, not forgetting the unique shops and small Art Galleries scattered all over the town! .

Beautiful St Ives

Meanwhile, a day trip over to the other coast, just a short 20 minutes’ drive away, is easily filled with a visit to St Michaels Mount, followed by a tour and gin tasting at the amazing local distillery A Pocket Full of Stones, or a wander around The Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens and its shop, with a fabulous lunch at the Tremenheere Kitchen!  (Remember to book, we would hate you to be disappointed)!

St Michaels Mount

For the walkers and the sweet toothed members of the family we can recommend a visit to one of the Moomaid Ice Cream parlours in the area. There are several parlours locally including ones in St Ives, St Just & Zennor.  The village of Zennor is a beautiful 5 miles coastal path walk from St Ives, if you don’t fancy the walk back you can have a well-deserved bus ride back to St Ives on the open top bus!  When in Zennor you can pop into the Moomaids parlour located at the Old Wayside Museum, just down the road to the left of The Tinners Arms pub. Here they serve teas, coffees, sandwiches, homemade cakes, cream teas, sundaes, and a great selection of ice cream. Also, you can visit the medieval church and see the bench dedicated to the legend of the Mermaid of Zennor.

For a foodies day out, Porthleven, a pretty harbour town on the south coast, have their very popular Food Festival weekend for three days,  22-24 April.  The award-winning, community-led event, brings families and foodies together to enjoy “eats and beats” around this picturesque Cornish harbour.

Wander about and discover the fantastic chef’s theatre, food market, street food, music by day and night with free family entertainment for all.

The Isles of Scilly

And finally…..for a very different day out – why not take a day trip to the Isles of Scilly?  Penzance Heliport offers daily flights to the Islands and at only 15 minutes each way you get a whole day on the Islands! Alternatively, you can go on a day trip on the Scillonian which takes around three hours each way, a longer trip, but great for dolphin spotting!
