Our black labs Bertie & Icy love that St Ives is dog friendly all year round, with the dog bans being more relaxed than ever, you don’t have to stick to ‘out of season‘ anymore to fully enjoy this beautiful part of Cornwall. Many beaches within St Ives and Carbis Bay now allow dogs on the beach in the peak season before 10am in the morning and after 6pm long after the days crowds have left the beaches, so there’s endless scope for early morning walkies or late evening sunset strolls.
Whether it’s just for a coffee or breakfast, lunch or dinner or just a pint you are after here’s a good selection of dog friendly places to check out with Rover, Spot or Buddy!
CAFES
This is a ‘must‘ for an excellent morning coffee, a light lunch or a spot of Tapas early evening while sipping a cocktail and watching the incredible sunsets over the beach. Plenty of space inside on the colder days with fab sea views, or if you are feeling brave book one of the heated pods for alfresco dining.
Dogs are welcome on the outside terraced areas and in the pods too. Relaxed and friendly staff will make you and your dogs very welcome. One of our favourite things to order is from the ‘ Build your own breakfast ‘ section , eggs, sausages, bacon, halloumi, butternut squash, tomatoes and mushrooms along with lashings of toast to set you up for the day.
Set above the gorgeous very family friendly Porthgwidden beach, the cafe has wonderful sea views and easy access onto the beach for you and your dogs.
The cosy rustic seaside interior looks straight out to sea, be quick to grab a window table for the ultimate view, or try the outside sunny but fully enclosed terrace to soak up the beach vibes where dogs are welcome. Ideal for coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner with the menus being updated on a regular basis to enable you to enjoy the freshest seafood and produce all year round , including homemade pizza & Tapas too. A great place to enjoy a morning coffee, delicious breakfast or a mouthwatering selection of homemade sandwiches and Scoff Troff’s super salad bowls! Located on the busy market place, just seconds from the harbour, pop in with your dog and grab a window seat and enjoy the hustle and bustle as the world goes by.
Relaxing stylish interiors with a cool vibe, you might even meet the resident Scoff Troffs dog! Take away available too if you wanted to enjoy your snack by the sea or sat on the harbour … just watch out for those pesky gulls!
RESTAURANTS.
Recently refurbished, the flagship HUB now includes a lovely enclosed outside terrace overlooking the harbour, along with plenty of outside space and balcony for you to enjoy alfresco dining. Dogs are very welcome … and check out the views!
Enjoy a beautifully crafted coffee, a hearty HUB breakfast ( up to 11.15am) or from midday the mighty fine HUB burgers to suit all tastes. Superb meat burgers using locally sourced grass fed beef, a great selection of Chicken burgers, big veggie & vegan choice or try the delicious Hot Dogs, with dirty fries & slaw & onion rings, and don’t forget the Nachos too!

One of the most iconic and arguably best located cafe/ restaurants in St Ives, if not the UK! Porthminster beach cafe is sat overlooking the pristine beach and out to sea with far reaching views to GODREVY LIGHTHOUSE and set among palm trees and subtropical gardens creating a very Mediterranean feel at this very special place to eat.
Very relaxed and informal vibe here with simply stunning seafood being a major part of its culinary delights.
The cafe has a huge and now fully enclosed weather proof terrace where you can sit and enjoy your lunch with your dogs, and on those balmy warm sunny days the roof slides back to let in the sunshine to put you into full holiday mode, with blankets and hot lamps available for those chillier evenings.
Coffee and cake can be enjoyed early on as it then makes way to superb seafood lunches and dinners .. we can highly recommend the simple beer battered fish and chips with an ice cold bottle of Rose , nothing more refreshing on a warm summers day . If you want your lunch on the beach just use the take away to the side of the cafe or grab a cocktail from their neighbouring cocktail bar. A perfect place for all the family … and your four legged friends.
PUBS
A fab location upstairs on the St Ives harbour front with the window seats opening out to spectacular harbour views. Very relaxed and informal place to sit and relax with your pets and sample some amazing cocktails or try one of the many different rums from their enormous selection.
Seafood shack style dining is the order of the day here, simple but delicious half pint of shell on Prawns, popcorn Shrimp or the delicious shack Fish Chowder , or for the hungrier try the hearty Rum & Crab shack signature seafood sharing boards with Crab & Lobster. Veggie & vegan menu as well along with the old favourites Mac & Cheese , Pulled Pork Tacos or Shack Burgers. Very family and very dog friendly.
Most probably THE best located pub in St Ives. Situated right on the harbour front by the slipway, the Sloop is the oldest pub in St Ives, dating back to 1312 AD, the Sloop is not only a favourite holiday destination for many, but one of the most popular haunts for locals too.
Arrive early with your dogs and grab a wooden bench , a pint in hand and watch the ever changing views unfold.
Opens from 9 am – 11 pm, serving breakfast, lunch & dinner with really good seafood platters. Family friendly , pets very welcome and once you sit down you won’t want to leave!
THE UNION INN
A very traditional yet cosy pub set away from the busy harbour front on Fore Street , which can also be packed in the summer. However once you step inside you instantly escape the crowds , grab a cosy sofa , with your favourite tipple and dog … and you instantly begin to relax and recharge your batteries.
A home from home feel awaits, with friendly staff who are very welcoming for you and your dogs. Great out of season too, especially after a long dog walk, sit down to a roaring fire.
Simple pub grub and real ales, with food being served from 12 – 3 and 5.30 – 9pm the perfect watering hole for families, friends and their four legged friends.
