Christmas 2018 in St Ives

If you are still undecided where to celebrate Christmas with the family this year, then why not visit beautiful St Ives for some very special seasonal seaside fun!

While the rest of the UK is shivering, St Ives seems to be blessed with mild gulf stream weather. Perfect for bracing beach walks, Christmas shopping in the many lovely independent shops and markets, or “cosying up” in one of the many pubs or restaurants that St Ives has to offer.

St Ives in December just keeps getting bigger and better with Fantastic Fridays and Super Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas. Here’s what we’ve got in store for you and you can find more information on the St Ives at Christmas Website.

Starting on Friday 29 November to Sunday 2 December The Etsy Made Local Christmas Fair arrives in the Guildhall– just the place for buying all of those unique handmade gifts.

On Saturday 1 December The Town Treasure Hunt; Shop Window Competition (sponsored by Greenwood Wilson); Fair Mo; Kidz R Us Bazaar; St Ives Lantern Parade (see if you can spot our Cherished Lantern) ; Royal Square Christmas Lights Switch-on.

Friday 7 December Father Christmas arrives into the harbour on the high tide at 6pm, safely escorted by the RNLI

Saturday 8 December from 11am to 4pm, Father Christmas will be in his Winter Wonderland Grotto at the Salvation Army Hall with his Elves and presents from the North Pole – and a special visit from the St Ives Mermaid; Saffron Christmas Market at the Guildhall.

Saturday 15 December Join the famous Food Trail or the History & Mystery of St Ives Walk; the Judges will be making their decision about the winners of the Shop Window Competition although you’ve got until 31 December to cast your vote for the People’s Award.

And, of course, if you fancy exploring the surrounding area most of our larger attractions are open with events of their own!  Here are a few of the ones we have all been to and can wholeheartedly recommend:

Trengwainton National Trust Gardens close to Penzance is running a series of Christmas Lantern walks, these are always magical! Father Christmas will be there too (what a busy man)!

The pretty village of Mousehole, just outside of Penzance, has become famous for its spectacular Christmas Lights, drawing thousands of visitors every year. The tiny winding streets are illuminated with a blaze of colour, while down in the harbour the water reflects the lights beautifully. The displays are all maritime themed with sea serpents, whales and fishing boats to name a few! And,  if you like Christmas Lights, another must visit is just a short drive away at the quaint village of Angarrack. This village puts on a marvellous display, there is a walk through the village culminating at the Village Pub where you can enjoy a glass of mulled wine or two!

Finally,  the Amazing Eden Project (just one hour’s drive away) has Ice Skating and Santa’s Grotto – complete with elves!

Who said St Ives & Cornwall are just for the Summer!  To book your own family Christmas escape give the friendly team a call on 01736-490640 to book, we look forward to hearing from you.
